The 10 Best Christmas Gifts for Toddlers and Preschoolers, Ranked

These 10 picks cover both, from a $13 song-and-counting book to an $80 push car, plus a $160 Toniebox farm bundle for the one big present, and every one is rated 4.6 or higher on Amazon.

What makes a good Christmas gift for a toddler?
Toddlers respond to toys that react when they touch them: a button that clicks, a dial that changes a light, a horn that honks. Look for a clear age range on the listing, and keep in mind that the gift also has to work for the parent who will play with it every day.
Small gift or big gift?
This list mixes both. The Melissa & Doug book (about $13), the LeapFrog phone (about $13) and the VTech flashlight (about $17) fit in a stocking. The Bouncy Pals hopper (about $36), the Little Tikes Cozy Coupe (about $56) and the Step2 Push Around Buggy (about $80) are the big presents, best when family members chip in together. The Toniebox 2 My First Farm Bundle (about $160) is the priciest pick, listed for kids 1+ with a Cow and a Horse among its soft figures.
Check batteries, assembly and weight limits
The VTech flashlight takes two AAA batteries (included), and LeapFrog says the batteries in the box are for demo purposes only, so keep spare AAAs on hand. The Little Tikes Cozy Coupe requires assembly, and both it and the Step2 buggy list a 50 lb weight limit. The Bouncy Pals hopper has to be inflated with an air pump.
