Why it makes a good gift
Best for : A coworker who spends all day at a screen and could use a phone-free break
Best occasion : Secret Santa, a work anniversary, a retirement or a birthday
Why it works : Raking patterns and moving the pagoda or bridge around gives a two-minute hands-on break with no screen and no noise for the next desk over. Fifteen pieces mean the scene never looks the same twice, and the wooden tray still looks good on the desk between sessions.
Avoid if : A cluttered desk, or a home with small kids: keep the sand and small pieces out of their reach.
Workplace fit : Quiet and decorative, it works on a shared desk as long as there's a stable 11 x 8 in spot for it.
