Why it makes a good gift
Best for : A golfer who plays regularly and wants accurate yardages, such as a dad, a father-in-law or a retired friend who lives on the course.
Best occasion : Christmas for a golfer, or a milestone birthday or Father's Day gift.
Why it works : A rangefinder is a gift that is used on every round, and golfers rarely buy one for themselves until they have tried a friend's. The slope function and 800-yard range cover most course situations. At about $86 with a 4.6 rating from more than 1,800 reviews, it sits in a range that feels generous without reaching into premium-brand territory.
Avoid if : The recipient does not play golf, or plays in competitions that ban slope readings. A golfer who already owns a rangefinder or GPS watch will probably prefer something else.
